Western Australia names Space Angel as recipient of spaceport establishment grant

“The company will receive $1.75 million, which it will match, to carry out site assessments needed for planning and regulatory approvals and to develop a business case for proposed spaceport sites in Western Australia. The funding was awarded through what the government described as an open and competitive process.”

“In parallel, the government is conducting a feasibility study to identify additional locations for spaceports across the State.”

“The government said the global space launch services market exceeds US$15 billion and is projected to grow by 15 per cent each year, positioning the sector as a potential source of new investment and jobs.”

“Space Angel was founded in 2020 and is led by founder and chief executive Ram Kuppusamy. Its flagship project is the Australian Space Super Corridor, a plan for a pair of what the company calls green spaceports: a polar launch and re-entry site in the Eucla region on the Nullarbor, and an equatorial site south of Christmas Island in the Indian Ocean Territories. Only the Eucla corridor sits inside WA, and the company has identified vacant crown land across Caiguna, Cocklebiddy, Mundrabilla, Madura, and Eucla, with its initial launch focus on Madura and Mundrabilla and retrieval operations at Eucla.”
