Mekong countries step up cybersecurity cooperation as cross-border threats grow

“More than 30 policymakers, cybersecurity experts and computer emergency response team (CERT) members met in Siem Reap from July 15 to 17 for the Lancang-Mekong Regional Cybersecurity Forum, where they exchanged threat intelligence and explored ways to strengthen cross-border cooperation against emerging cyber threats.”

“Participants identified several priorities for future collaboration, including regular exchanges of technical expertise and threat information, joint training programs, cybersecurity exercises, collaborative research, and closer coordination among national CERTs and government agencies.”

“The Lancang-Mekong region comprises Cambodia, China, Lao PDR, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam. The Lancang-Mekong Cooperation (LMC) mechanism was established in November 2015 to strengthen collaboration among the six countries.”

“The initiative focuses on three pillars: political and security cooperation, economic and sustainable development, and social, cultural and people-to-people exchanges.”
