Indonesia, Singapore bolster defense ties with joint training centers, alumni network

“Indonesia and Singapore are strengthening defense ties with training facilities and an alumni network of officers from the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) and Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) who have worked, studied or trained together.”

“The alumni initiative comes amid the countries’ pledge to deepen military cooperation, which includes a Defense Cooperation Agreement (DCA) signed in 2022. Indonesian Defense Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin and Singaporean Defence Minister Chan Chun Sing launched the alumni effort in July 2026.”

“The TNI and SAF plan to codevelop three defense facilities in Indonesia — the Siabu Air Weapons Range in Riau province, and training centers in South Sumatra and West Kalimantan provinces. Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto and Singaporean Prime Minister Lawrence Wong announced the joint projects after meeting in Jakarta in early July.”

“The announcement followed the conclusion of the 32nd annual iteration of Exercise Chandrapura, which featured SAF commandos and TNI special forces conducting close-quarters combat, airborne operations, fast roping, rappelling and other drills at the Singapore Armed Forces Training Institute, known as SAFTI City.”
