Malaysia to install radar on Pulau Layang-Layang amid South China Sea claims

“Defence Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin said the radar installation was part of the government’s ongoing efforts to strengthen Malaysia’s defence presence on Pulau Layang-Layang [aka Swallow Reef] and enhance monitoring of the strategically important area.”

“He said overlapping claims in the South China Sea involved several countries, including China, Vietnam and the Philippines, and Malaysia could not allow any claim over its territory to go unchallenged.”

“Earlier, Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan said Malaysia had submitted a diplomatic note in response to a neighbouring country’s claim that parts of Malaysia’s territory belonged to it.”
