“The first phase of a next-generation, domestically developed regional air defense system combines the Huanzhan Project (寰展計畫), which integrates air defense intelligence across the armed forces, and the National Chungshan Institute of Science and Technology’s (NCSIST) Chiang Kung (強弓, ‘Strong Bow’) missile defense program, the source said on Saturday.”
“The Huanzhan Project would establish an automated joint command-and-control network linking the army, navy and air force, replacing separate service-specific air defense systems.”
“Under the proposed multilayered air defense architecture, the Chiang Kung system would provide the outermost layer, intercepting tactical ballistic missiles at altitudes of up to 70km. The Tien Kung III missile system would provide medium to long-range regional air defense, while the land-based Tien Chien II system would defend against low and medium-altitude threats.”
“Formally known as the Phase II Huanwang Enhancement Program (寰網二階段精進工程), the Huanzhan Project is to serve as the digital backbone of Taiwan’s integrated air defense network.”
