Marshall Islands digital currency debuts this month in limited form

The Marshall Islands has introduced the USDM1, a sovereign digital bond issued on the Stellar blockchain, alongside the Lomalo digital wallet to facilitate Universal Basic Income (UBI) payments, known locally as “Enra,” to its citizens. While these tools are intended to help reach isolated islanders, the distribution process currently faces hurdles because the COFA trust fund only permits direct bank deposits or paper checks. Additionally, the currency is not yet widely accepted, as the government is still working to establish the necessary relationships with domestic vendors for daily use.
