India was the world’s top arms importer in the latest five-year period, driven by tensions with China and Pakistan. Pakistan emerged as the fifth-largest importer, with 80% of its arms coming from China. China’s own defense budget is set to grow by 7% to reach nearly $276 billion, as the country remains the world’s fifth-largest arms exporter, with major sales to Pakistan, Thailand, Africa, and Serbia.
