“Thailand has formally sought Portugal’s support in accelerating negotiations on the European Union–Thailand Free Trade Agreement (FTA) and advancing its bid to join the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) by 2030.”
“[Thailand Foreign Affairs Minister] added that Portugal has also expressed its readiness to support Thailand’s efforts to secure Schengen visa exemption, which would ease travel for Thai nationals visiting Europe.”
“On trade, Mr Sihasak described the EU–Thailand FTA as one of the most important pillars of Thailand’s engagement with the European Union. Negotiations, which resumed in 2023 after a nearly decade-long suspension, are progressing, and Thailand aims to conclude the talks by the end of this year.”
“He said Portugal has been an active advocate within the European Union for advancing the EU–Thailand FTA, viewing it as a strategic step toward strengthening EU–Asean economic integration. Portugal will also remain supportive of Thailand’s efforts to join the OECD, he added.”
