Russia, North Korea, Iran, Belarus, and Myanmar have begun procedural discussions to promote a ‘Eurasian Charter on Diversity and Multipolarity’ as a counter to Western anti-Russia solidarity, according to a report by Belarusian state news agency Belta on the 3rd. Delegations from the five nations held simultaneous meetings at the Russian and Belarusian foreign ministries and issued a joint statement. Analysts interpret this as authoritarian regimes strengthening their ‘anti-Western bloc’ cohesion.
The Eurasian Security International Conference, launched in Minsk in October 2023, has expanded annually under the strong support of Russian President Vladimir Putin and Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko. Last year’s third meeting included delegations not only from the five nations but also from China and Hungary.
North Korea participated in the conference for the first time last year. At the opening ceremony, North Korean Foreign Minister Choe Son-hui claimed, ‘NATO, the world’s largest war machine, is inciting extreme anti-Russia hysteria, casting a shadow of war over all of Europe in the western part of Eurasia. The U.S.-led trilateral military alliance of the U.S., Japan, and South Korea has entered full-scale operations, seriously threatening regional security in eastern Eurasia.’
